2018 Africa Day celebrated in Guangzhou

The 2018 Africa Day was celebrated in Guangzhou on Thursday in Soluxe Hotel. Ten African Consulates General in Guangzhou including Angola, the Republic of Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Uganda, Zambia, jointly host the celebration.

“Africa Day is a solemnity that must thrill all the hearts of Africans here in Guangzhou, our beautiful host city and the city of residence”, Alima Danfakha Gakou, Consul General of Mali and the Dean of African Consulate Corps in Guangzhou, remarked during the celebration.

She also quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech in Tanzania to demonstrate “Africa, a continent of hope and promise, is forging ahead like a galloping African lion.”

The celebration also presented excellent and authentic African folk dance and music to the attendees.

Officials of the People’s Governments of Guangdong, Hainan and Guanxi Zhuang Autonomous Provinces, members of the Diplomatic Corps in Guangzhou also joined the celebration.

The Africa Day is to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (now known as the African Union) on May 25, in 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world. The African Union is a continental union which was formed with the overall mission of speeding up integration in the continent. In recent years, China-AU relations have enjoyed in-depth development. On February 8 this year, the 7th round of China-AU Strategic Dialogue was successfully held in Beijing.
