Effective ways to memorize Chinese vocabularies

Increasing your vocabulary will enable your full usage of Chinese but memorizing new words are a difficult task for any language learner. It is important to know the multiple meanings of a word, pronunciation and how to use in a sentence.

Write It, Say It, Think It

Writing things down is said to be a good way to remember things. While doing this, other steps are left out which doesn't increase your potential in memorizing new vocabulary. It is important to write in repetition, write out the definition, use pinyin and Chinese Characters if possible, say the words as you write them, draw a description of the word, use it in a sentence, listen to it in audio playback with picture-audio dictionary apps such as Pleco.

Antonyms and Synonyms

Kill two birds with a stone by learning a word and find others similar in meaning or its polar opposite. Careful not to overload in one day. Attempting to speed cram long lists of vocabulary will be ineffective.

Mnemonics

Mnemonics makes a strong mental connect with Chinese character meanings through pictographs, music and other association techniques. This popular language hack is commonly used to break down Chinese words in the form of a story or pictures that sums up its origin meaning.

Consistency plays a big role in implementing these learning methods. Stay focused and maintaining vocabulary will be a cinch.
