The Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou celebrates its 20th Anniversary

The Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou started operations in September 1997. In the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment, the Consulate will organize a series of events with Guangzhou Times Museum, Fei Gallery, Cycle Canton and local Dutch and Chinese communities in Guangzhou on the 15th and 16th of September, in the purpose of further enhancing the people-to-people exchange and collaboration between the Netherlands and southern China.

Pechakucha Night Holland+

On the evening of the 15th September, the Consulate General will kick off the celebration with a Pechakucha Night Holland+, during this event long standing Dutch and Chinese representatives will be invited to share their stories and experience from a variety of perspectives reflecting Sino-Dutch collaborations, from history, art and culture, to business and investment. The Pechakucha style (20 slides x 20 seconds) will showcase the longstanding exchange and cooperation between the Netherlands and southern China with a personal touch.

Cylce through Canton, Discover the Netherlands

On the 16th of September, there will be a cycling tour named Cycle through Canton, Discover the Netherlands in collaboration with Cycle Canton and Mobike. The tour will take you through some of the Dutch highlights and footprints in Guangzhou. For instance, the Canton Tower, a Dutch-designed landmark building by Dutch architects: Mark Hemel and Barbara kuit. During the tour, participants will also be able to enjoy Dutch games and typical Dutch treats. It is a great way to showcase the exchange and collaboration between the Netherlands, as the Kingdom of bikes, and China, being the empire of bikes. The emerging shared bike industry makes this event even more special.

Dutch Bike Design Exhibition, Design Talk and Workshop

In the meantime, a Dutch bike exhibition, Dutch bike design talk and workshop will take place in Guangzhou Fei Gallery. The Dutch Design Exhibition: Bikes of the Future, will display designs that represent the newest, most innovative and special bikes that were part of the world cycling conference Velo-City 2017, curated by Dutch designer Leonne Cuppen. She is the owner of Yksi Connect and Yksi Expo Foundation. Yski Connect aims to connect designers with the industry, provide inspiration, gives direction and resolves issues. Leonne Cuppen will give an overview of Dutch Design and show how Dutch Bikes mirrors the main elements of Dutch Design. On the following day, there are theme events with bikes for the public to participate, to feel the joy and pleasure that bikes and design brings
