Consulate General of Italy celebrates 71st Republic Day in Guangzhou

On June 2, the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou held a reception to celebrate the 71st Republic Day of the Republic of Italy.

“The ancient silk road connects the two great civilizations of China and Italy, linking the east and the west. Guangdong is the pioneer in reforming and opening-up in China and we have achieved fruitful results with Italy in economy and trade, culture, tourism, S&T, education and so on,” said Zhong Xuanhui, Vice Secretary General of the Guangdong Provincial Government. “In November last year, China (Guangdong) – Italy Economic and Trade Cooperation Meeting was successfully held in Rome, which further expanded communication and cooperation among Italian and Chinese enterprises.”

Laura Egoli, Consul General of Italy in Guangzhou said that Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta keep being a point of attraction for China and the whole world, and Italians, are very at ease in this part of China. She also pledged that Italy will keep being a privileged partner in the development of South China, deepening the relations in the sectors where Chinese needs and Italian excellences meet.

In 2016, foreign trade volume between Guangdong and Italy hit USD 8.95 billion, accounting for 20.7% of the total between the two countries.

Two weeks ago, the EU – China Tourism Year, set for 2018, was announced in Guangdong. Tourism is also one of the most promising fields of cooperation with China and Italy, following the vision of the “Road to 50” and of the “Action Plan Italy – China 2017-2020”, the route leading Italy and China to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020.
