It is time to enjoy original Dutch culture in Guangdong

What is the first impression when you hear Netherlands? Windmill, tulip or orange? In this month, people in Guangdong can experience original Dutch culture in Guangdong from this month.

A series of wonderful events is to be organized by the Consualte Gereral of the Kingdom of the Netherlands this year, since 2017 is the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Netherlands, as well as the 20th anniversary of the opening of Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou

On April 28, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou held a reception to celebrate King’s Day in Guangzhou, which officially kicked off the annual session of the “Dutch Day” events.

On behalf of People’s Government of Guangdong Province, Xu Ruisheng, Vice Governor of Guangdong, expressed the gratitude to the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for promoting relations between Guangdong and the Netherlands.

“Guangdong has been attaching great importance to its friendly cooperation and exchanges with the Netherlands,” said Vice Governor Xu. “The province of Utrecht is one of the earliest and closest sister provinces of Guangdong. The frequent exchanges in various fields have greatly promoted mutual understanding among people in the two provinces.”

Due to the Netherlands’ achievement in international trade, shipping and finance, Vice Governor Xu said that the communication between Guangdong and Netherlands would be strengthened in the future, especially in the field of new energy, agriculture and shipbuilding etc..

“We are now strengthening cooperation with the cities in the Southern China in smart mobility, eco-friendly precision farming and circular energy.” said Marjo Crompvoets, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou. “There are many areas where China and the Netherlands are complementary to each other.”

Netherlands has been being the 2nd trading partner for China in EU since 2003, while trade volume between Guangdong and the Netherlands was $13.1 billion in 2016, accounting for 1/5 of the two countries’ total.

Last year, more than 90 Guangdong companies made direct investment in the Netherlands last year, which created over 1450 jobs simultaneously.
