10 years ago when Rachel Maidment, the newly arrived New Zealand Consul-General in Guangzhou, came to Guangdong for her travel in South China, she might never thought that she would have so close connections with this place that she would work here for the following several years since this October.
Hair styled into an elegant upsweep, wearing a neat blue suit, this time Maidment came back to Guangzhou with a different identity. Devoting herself to New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade for tens of years, she shows her tact in dealing with her new title in the Consulate General of New Zealand in Guangzhou smoothly.
Different from her predecessor Rebecca Needham, who has ancestors from Guangzhou, Maidment did not get so close connections with Guangdong. But it doesn’t worry her at all. Except from her work in New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade focusing on China, she has taken one year fulltime Chinese language training in National Taiwan University.
When talking with the reporter from Newsgd.com about her present impression on Guangdong, Maidment used the word “incredible” to express her feeling. She said, ”I’m very much looking forward to coming and working in Guangdong.”
