Deng Huihong, Head of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, indicated that as a major destination for migrant workers and a province with frequent international events, Guangdong still faces uncertainty and risk. On the one hand, around 10 million people are finally getting back to work in different stages; on the other hand, cases in many other countries are on the rise.

Deng noted that companies should persuade staff in coronavirus-stricken areas to delay their return. People who have returned to Guangdong shall receive 14-day medical observation arranged by their company or community.

“Except for work, people from non-coronavirus-stricken areas should avoid going out for 14 days after their arrival in Guangdong," Deng said. "If any symptoms of the virus present themselves, it’s suggested that the individual go to their local designated hospital."

It has been reported recently that some discharged patients have tested positive again. Deputy Head of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention Song Tie said that medical institutions have strengthened tests and checks for discharged patients, and that all patients should undergo a 14-day home quarantine once leaving hospital.

"At present, some of discharged patients have tested positive. Due to centralized medical observation, there isn’t second generation close contact or potential close contact," Song said.

He stressed that Guangdong can not only ensure the healthy discharge of patients, but also protect their close contacts, adding “In public places, people should strive to keep a one-meter distance between themselves and others.”
