Ronaldo Vizconde Dorupa is the foreign expert consultant on the development of the Leadair AG300. The AG300 is the first business jet in China to use a self-developed composite material in its construction. Ronaldo won the Friendship Award in 2016, the highest award in China for "foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country's economic and social progress".

To his Chinese colleagues in AVIC General Aircraft in Zhuhai, however, Ronaldo Vizconde Dorupa is more known as “Ronnie”, a Guangdong old-hand who rides along the streets in Zhuhai in spare time and loves both Hong Kong milk tea and Macao pork buns.

“I feel at home in Zhuhai and it is lucky for me to be able to settle down here,” says Ronnie with satisfaction.

Supporting the development of general aviation in Guangdong

As an expert in general aviation, Ronnie moved to Guangdong in early 2012 when he was employed as the expert consultant by the AVIC General Aircraft for the research project of Leadair AG300. The aircraft had its first flight in July, 2014 thanks to the help of Ronnie’s team.

Ronnie also supports Guangdong’s recent policies to boost the development of general aviation, saying that this field can become a pilot industry in the field of innovation and can foster huge amount of technical talent to support the growth of commercial aviation.

In September, the Guangdong government issued a revised edition of the “Ten Policies and Measures on Foreign Investment”, according to which foreign capital is allowed to be invested in the General Aviation sector.

Striking a perfect work-life balance in Zhuhai

Having been living in Zhuhai for over 5 years, Ronnie is surprised at the progress made in the local infrastructure—the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the high speed railway service to and from Zhuhai, as well as the convenient Jinwan Overpass.

In Ronnie’s opinion, apart from transportation convenience, Zhuhai is also attractive for the work-life balance it provides people. As an avid cyclist, Ronnie likes to ride his bike after work on the many greenways and bike lanes around the city.

In addition, living in Zhuhai makes Ronnie feel closer to his hometown in the Philippines as the country now has closer and more frequent contacts with Guangdong, an important hub on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

“It is easy and cheap to travel from Guangdong to many Southeast Asian cities, and that is one of the reasons why I love Zhuhai,” says Ronnie, who, since living in Zhuhai, visits his brother in Japan more often.

When talking about his expectations for his future life in Guangdong, Ronnie hopes that he can keep enjoying this excellent balanced lifestyle and the odd sip of Hong Kong milk tea too.

一提到罗纳德·威斯康德·德鲁帕（Ronaldo Vizconde Dorupa），珠海通用航空研发制造基地的员工几乎无人不知。

这位被中国同事亲切称呼为“罗尼（Ronnie）”的“洋”专家身上有无数的光环和荣誉：中国第一款自主研发的全复合材料公务机“领世AG300”的外籍专家顾问，2016年获中国政府“友谊奖”……

在同事看来，罗尼不仅是技术给力的专业人士，更是接地气的“广东通”——闲暇时间经常骑行在珠海的大街小巷，经常开车自驾游，最爱港式奶茶和澳门猪扒包。

“我想说，珠海让我有家的感觉，我觉得非常幸运能来这里工作定居，”罗尼在接受采访时如是说。

支持广东发展通用航空

一提到飞机，大多数人的第一反应是民航客机。事实上，除从事定期客运、货运等公共航空运输飞机之外，还有很多从事工业、农业、林业等的作业飞行和抢险救灾、科学试验文化体育、旅游观光等方面的飞行活动的飞机，这些统称为通用飞机。这，就是罗尼的领域。

2012年初中航通飞聘用罗尼作为5座单发轻型涡桨公务机（AG300）新研项目的专家顾问。这也让罗尼开始了在广东的生活。经过整个团队的不懈努力，AG300于2014年7月实现首飞。

近年来广东全面推进创新发展战略，发力供给侧结构改革，包括飞机制造等智能制造行业迎来了飞速发展的时机。上个月广东公布的《广东省进一步扩大对外开放积极利用外资若干政策措施（修订版）》（简称《外资十条（修订版）》，放宽在通用飞机设计、制造与维修领域的限制。

在罗尼看来，通用航空可以为商业航空储备大批技术人才，成为探索创新产业发展的先驱领域，对于广东支持通用航空发展的政策，他表示非常支持。

完美平衡工作生活的城市

近年广东开始发力粤港澳大湾区建设，尤以基础设施建设为重点。这让在珠海生活了5年多的罗尼特别振奋：“第一次听说时还不太敢相信”的港珠澳大桥已经完工即将通车；珠海加入全国高铁网，让经常需要出省公务出差的他出行更加方便；多年前他骑着山地车一一探索过的横琴新区，得益于其地理优势和自贸区政策，如今发展日新月异；金湾大桥的通行更是让他受益良多——罗尼每天上下班都要经过这座桥……

在罗尼看来，珠海是一座能让人“完美地平衡工作和生活”的城市。工作之余罗尼最大的爱好是户外骑行。他是狂热的户外骑行爱好者，得益于遍地都是的绿道和完善的单车骑行系统规划，他可以毫无压力地骑行在珠海的大街小巷中。

在珠海生活，也让罗尼与故乡菲律宾的距离更近了。广东是21世纪海上丝绸之路的重要枢纽，与菲律宾等“一带一路”国家的联系也愈加频繁和方便。“从广东出发去很多东南亚城市的航班非常方便，而且很便宜。这也是我爱珠海的原因之一。”此外，罗尼的哥哥在日本定居，自从来了珠海后，他去探望哥哥的次数明显增加了很多。

谈到对在广东生活的期待，罗尼说：“希望5年后，我依然能在珠海宽阔平稳的路上踩着单车，呼吸新鲜的空气，偶尔停下来喝口港式奶茶或者吃个澳门猪扒包。”
