In an attempt to build up a safer society for people living in Guangdong, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department will launch 8 special campaigns.

In an attempt to build up a safer society for people living in Guangdong, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department will launch 8 special campaigns, including combating telecommunication and internet fraud, illegal immigration and cross-border gambling, according to a press conference held by Guangdong Information Office on April 28th.

“Guangdong police will focus on combating different forms of telecommunications and internet frauds, such as loan fraud, cross-border gambling and dating fraud,” said Yang Rihua, Executive Deputy Director-General of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. “The cases of telecommunication and internet fraud hopefully will be reduced by the end of June under the efforts that we are making.”

According to Luo Ningni, political commissar of theresearch center for new types of crime of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, since the beginning of this year, cases of the telecommunications and internet fraud have accounted for 30% of the total number of criminal cases with a variety of forms. More than 7900 suspects were have been detained, due to telecommunications and internet frauds.

Furthermore, Guangdong police will concentrate on administering road and traffic safety through investigating drink driving and overloaded vehicles.

At the press conference, Yang explained that residents in the province of Guangdong can send requests or suggestions for the Guangdong police online through the “mailbox of the Director-General”. The mailbox will be operated on the officail website, WetChat account (WeChat ID: GDPPRB) and Weibo (平安南粤) from May 1st this year.

“The mailbox is not for case reporting,” said Chen Binlong, political commissar of administration office of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. “People should still report case to the police station or by calling 110.”

Chen stressed that personal information will be strictly confidential and protected on all the platforms.
