AED (Automated external defibrillator), this machine can diagnose specific arrhythmia and give electric shock defibrillation. It is a medical device that can be used by non-professionals to rescue patients with sudden cardiac arrest. These have been placed strategically throughout the Metro system in several cities and are easily able to be used by any person, even untrained people are able to follow the instructions safely.

At present, the first batch of 59 AEDs have been installed in the Guangzhou Metro for public use. Among them, 50 were placed in 50 subway stations, and the other 9 were placed in 9 stations of Guangqing Intercity and Guangzhou East Ring Intercity.

The AEDs of the Guangzhou Metro are generally placed near the station control room. The colors are mainly orange and white, which means passengers can find them easily. In addition, Guangzhou Metro has marked all stations with AEDs on the official App. Passengers can also find the nearest AED through the AR navigation in the App.

Shenzhen

Shenzhen is the city with the most prominent AED configuration in China. At present, Shenzhen Metro has deployed AEDs on the concourse and platform levels of all stations. Passengers at any location can get to one in 3 minutes. Additionally, the 3,500 AEDs purchased by the Shenzhen Municipal Government have all been installed. AED can be seen in public places such as Shenzhen Airport, universities, stadiums, convention and exhibition centers.

Shenzhen residents could check the nearest AED through the WeChat applet "AED Navigation".

Dongguan

In November last year, 15 stations on Dongguan Metro Line 2 were equipped with AEDs. In Dongguan, use the "Help Map" WeChat applet to find nearby AEDs. Dongguan residents can also view the locations of AEDs in the WeChat applet.

How to use AED correctly?

AED is a fully automatic intelligent machine with voice prompts. It is called a "dumb machine" and can be used by non-professionals! Non-professionals open the AED and follow the instructions of the machine, which can greatly improve a patient's recovery success rate.

1.Check if the patient is unconscious, pat and call him/her several times

2.If the patient has no response, ask for help; call 120 and get the AED

3.Check the breathing (5 seconds to 10 seconds), and perform closed chest compression and artificial respiration.

4.Turn on the AED, and stick the electrodes on as shown.

5.The AED automatically analyzes heart rate.

6.Follow the AED’S prompts, defibrillate with electric shock or continue chest compression and artificial respiration.
