Guangdong has tightened quarantine measures for inbound arrivals, emphasizing a stricter closed-loop management measure: This will mean 14-day quarantine in designated venues + 7-day medical observation in the community.

Inbound arrivals need to take nucleic acid tests on the 1st, 7th, 14th, and 21st day after entering Guangdong. Huang Fei, Deputy Director-General of the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, announced the policy at the 70th press conference on Guangdong's fight against COVID-19 today.

On January 7th, Guangdong reported 3 new cases of imported confirmed infection and 5 new asymptomatic cases. Three confirmed case, reported by Guangzhou, came from Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Netherlands. And 5 asymptomatic cases, reported by Guangzhou and Jiangmen, came from the US, India, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates. All of above cases were found at the port of entry, and were quarantined for observation immediately.

As of 24:00, January 7, Guangdong had reported a total of 2,065 COVID-19 cases, among which 669 imported cases. Currently, there are 37 cases in hospital. All are light and also all are imported cases.

School closing/opening time decided for universities, secondary schools and primary schools

University students will leave the school between December 30, 2020 and February 6, 2021. The spring semester will start between February 18 and March 8, 2021.

Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools will be closed from January 10 to 25, 2021. The spring semester will start between February 20 and March 1, 2021.

Health authority suggests spending the Spring Festival in Guangdong

As the winter vacation and Spring Festival approach, Huang Fei advises the public to minimize travel and gatherings, spend holidays in Guangdong and exercise protection measures. Family gatherings are suggested to be limited to 10 individuals.

Guangdong has 1,210,900 people already vaccinated against coronavirus

Guangdong is currently advancing the coronavirus vaccination work in an orderly manner in accordance with the principle of "port cities first and key populations first". As of January 7, a total of 1.2109 million people had been inoculated in the province.

Chinese mainland reports 53 new COVID-19 cases on January 7

The Chinese mainland on Thursday reported 53 new COVID-19 cases – 37 cases of local transmission and 16 from overseas, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

The locally transmitted cases were reported in north and northeast China: 33 in Hebei Province, two in Liaoning Province and one each in Beijing and Heilongjiang Province.

Moreover, 57 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded, while 458 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No death related to COVID-19 was registered on Thursday, while 17 patients were discharged from hospitals.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in China has reached 87,331, and the death toll stands at 4,634.

The total number of confirmed infections in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and the Taiwan region are as follows:

Hong Kong: 9,107 (8,258 recoveries, 154 deaths)

Macao: 46 (46 recoveries)

Taiwan: 822 (708 recoveries, 7 deaths)

As of 3 p.m. on January 7, 2021, China had one high-risk area and 50 medium-risk areas. The only one high-risk area is Gaocheng district of Shijiazhuang, capital of North China's Hebei province.
