According to Guangzhou Metro, the adjustment ensures people’s visit to the major business districts and scenic spots in the evening before the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival.
Given the number of New Year’s Eve celebrations downtown, all metro lines will stop operation one hour and a half later on December 31st, 2020, and one hour later respectively on January 1st and January 3rd, 2021.
However, unlike last year, large-scale New Year Countdown activities will not be held in Canton Tower, Huacheng Square, and other Tianhe business districts.
The passenger flow will begin to increase dramatically at 2 pm on December 31st. It is anticipated that the metro will receive 10.99 million person-times on New Year’s Eve and 9.28 million person-times on New Year’s Day. The average passenger flow will reach 9.08 million person-times during the New Year Holiday.
The operation time will be further extended, given the real-time passenger flow. 30 more trains will be employed to ease the traffic pressure during peak hours.
The Chinese New Year’s Eve is due on February 11th, 2021. During the Spring Festival, the travel rush will start on January 28th, 2021, so get prepared in advance!
