On December 18th, the groundbreaking ceremony of PepsiCo Foods Guangdong Foshan Manufacturing Base was held in Danzao, a town in Nanhai, Foshan, Guangdong. The factory is the first food production base established by global food and beverage giant PepsiCo in Southern China.

With a total investment of 500 million RMB, the factory is expected to be put into production in September 2022 with a production capacity of 25,000 tons. Located in Foshan's high-tech industrial park, the facility covers an area of about 53,333 square meters with a building area of 24,000 square meters.

The food manufacturing base will be equipped with one sliced potato chip production line and two canned potato chip production lines. There will also be a finished products and raw material warehouse, auxiliary facilities, a sewage disposal plant and others. It is going to be an important food production base in south China and will create thousands of jobs locally.

Anne Tse, general manager and senior vice-president of PepsiCo Greater China Foods, pointed out that China is one of the most important global markets for PepsiCo and its Foshan factory is a significant move of its investment in south China. "The PepsiCo Foods Guangdong Foshan Manufacturing Base will meet the ever-growing food and beverage needs of the south China market, create more job opportunities, and promote the development of food consumption industry in Foshan."

The food factory will also accelerate the upgrading of Foshan's food industry and bring new vitality to the regional economic development under the country's development pattern "dual circulation".

Located in the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta region, Foshan is an important key node city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with efficient transportation network and well-organized business environment. PepsiCo chose to establish its factory in Foshan because of the city's resources in well-planned industrial cluster such as talent, R&D, and other supporting facilities.

Over the past several years, PepsiCo has continued to increase its investment in China. As of now, it has established eight food factories in China, six potato demonstration farms, and 18 cooperative farms. Together with its business partners, PepsiCo has invested over 53 billion RMB in China over the past decade.
