Liu Baochun, Director of Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office and Peleg Lewi, Consul General of Israel in Guangzhou, attended the ceremony.

Peleg Lewi brought an olive tree as a gift to Guangzhou and said olive trees represent peace and hope to Israelis. “I know there are a lot of gifts from Guangzhou’s international sister cities displayed in the Yuntai Garden. The olive tree is the first gift from Israel.”

Tel Aviv-Yafo is the second biggest city of Israel. Guangzhou formed its friendship with Tel Aviv-Yafo in 2017 and set up a technological innovation office in Tel Aviv to boost cooperation. The two cities have seen more exchanges and cooperation in such fields as biological medicine, technological innovation, education and trade in recent years.

In addition, A New Look on Flowers, a flower photography exhibition by Israeli photographer Rotem Avrutsky, kicked off in the Yuntai Garden at the same day. The exhibition will last until October 8th.

Peleg Lewi said that “we choose to have this exhibition in the honor of Guangzhou which is also named the flower city. Tel Aviv is known as the white city also because of flowers. Most importantly, when we meet a new friend, we give them flowers. This is why we’re holding this exhibition”.
