On September 3rd, GPHL entered into a cooperative agreement with PepsiCo in Guangzhou, that its subsidiary Guangzhou Baiyunshan Pangaoshou Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Pangaoshou) and PepsiCo's oat brand Quaker will work together to develop healthy and trendy instant oatmeal products which incorporate Chinese traditional style and culture.

The first two new products jointly developed by Pangaoshou and Quaker are Hou Tou Gu flavor and E Jiao flavor instant oatmeal. In traditional Chinese medicine, Hou Tou Gu (Hericium Erinaceus) benefits the five internal organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys) and promotes digestion, while E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini) can tonify blood and nourish yin. Paired with other ingredients scientifically, both flavors of oatmeal are good for health.

Pangaoshou is a China Time-honored Brand with a history of 130 years and a well-known Chinese patent medicine manufacturer. Quaker has been the leading expert in oats and dedicated to transforming the oat into products that help people benefit from their goodness for more than 140 years. Their cooperation goes with a trend in China called Guochao ("国潮"), which refers to a surge in young consumers’ interest in domestic brands and products that incorporate Chinese traditional style and cultural elements.

According to GPHL chairman Li Chuyuan, the nutritious instant oatmeal is one of the company's first fast moving consumer goods co-developed with a Fortune Global 500 enterprise and the company’s other move to extend its philosophy 'Trendy TCM'. The product is a crossover integration of modern health concept, Guochao culture and the idea of medicine and food as inseparable.

Anne Tse, GM and SVP of PepsiCo Greater China Foods, pointed out that the two companies make the most of resources and advantages of both sides and present healthy products that meet the demand of Chinese consumers, particularly young adults.

As the pandemic has raised people's awareness of healthcare, both companies agree on developing more healthy products for the masses, which is also the original intention of launching the nutritious instant oatmeal together.
