The participants have come from Hong Kong, Macao universities such as Hong Kong University of Science and University of Macau while some of them are studying on Chinese mainland at Peking University, Fudan University and Sun Yat-sen University.

Mak Chi Yeung, a Hong Kong participant, said he is now a senior student of Jinan University and plans to seek a career in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, especially in Guangzhou.

“The Greater Bay Area has been rapidly developed and this will be a precious chance for me to gain experience before graduation. In fact, I applied last year but failed to attend because of timing problem. I signed upagain this year regardless of the pandemic”, said Mak Chi Yeung.

According to Nansha, the district will launch an employment program for Hong Kong, Macao students this year, providing more than 100 job opportunities in government departments, state-owned companies, financial institutions and major tech firms such as Pony.ai and iFlytek. Thus far, more than 50 Hong Kong, Macao students have participated in the program.

Nansha has organized this internship program for five consecutive years and offered internship opportunities for more than 1500 Hong Kong, Macao students. It saw the largest number of over 600 students participating last year. But it has to restrict the number to 120 due to the pandemic even though the number of applicants exceeded 500 this year.
