Guangdong to “have a fever” in the next three days

In the following three days, most areas in Guangdong will still be sultry and humid with high temperature. The highest temperature in some parts of the eastern Pearl River Delta region can reach 38℃ or 39℃. It’s important for all of us to prevent heatstroke.

The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Major Heat, (Chinese: 大暑), the 12th solar term of the year, begins this year on July 22 and ends on August 6.

Thunderstorms hit Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places on the afternoon of July 21, bringing the temperature down a little bit, especially in Shenzhen where temperature plummeted to only 27.9℃ at 2 p.m.

The eastern area of the Pearl River Delta region was mainly cloudy and sunny with scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain in the afternoon yesterday. Other cities and counties saw sunny weather with potential rainfall in the afternoon. The highest temperatures in the southern coastal cities were between 31°C and 33°C, and reached 35°C to 37°C in other cities, a small number of cities saw 38°C.

As for the main city, Guangzhou was sunny with a chance of cloud yesterday with thunderstorms in some districts, cloudy at night. The temperatures were between 28°C and 36°C. The relative humidity was between 50 and 90 percent.

Shenzhen was cloudy to fine yesterday with short-term showers and localized thunderstorms. The temperature is from 28°C to 34°C. The central and northern area's temperature reached 35°C or above. The city's relative humidity was between 55 and 95 percent.

From July 23 to 24, most regions of Guangdong will be sunny or cloudy with scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. The highest temperatures in the southern coastal cities and counties will range from 31°C to 34°C, the remaining cities will see the highs of 35°C to 37°C, and a very few cities may reach 38°C to 39°C.

The meteorological department reminds the residents that in coming days, it’s going to be scorching hot in most areas across Guangdong. All should pay attention to heatstroke prevention and timely water consumption. In addition, some areas are prone to strong convective weather in the afternoon. Residents should pay attention to possible thunder and lightning, short-term heavy precipitation and thunderstorms, there might also be some gale force winds so, be aware and guard against secondary disasters caused by bad weather.
