There are some posts on Weibo saying that the year’s first typhoon Vongfong will make landfall during the upcoming holiday and ruin your five days off.

The good news, however, is that Chinese meteorologists have confirmed it as fake news.

While it has become a routine to wear a mask outdoors, long-term wear can be both uncomfortable and exacerbate some skin conditions and allergies, and contribute to unsightly black heads, pimples and acne. With summer coming, and higher temperatures on the way, it’s only set to get worse.

We’ve prepared some basic tips below to help make it more bearable:

1.Choose a suitable mask

When purchasing masks, ensure they are from a certified supplier, without materials that may cause an allergic reaction. The masks should fit the shape of your face.

Some light padding (using band-aid, medical tape and so on) could be added to the edge of the mask or behind your ears to avoid irritating the skin through pressure and rubbing.

2.Practice a daily skin care regimen

Clean your face twice a day with clean running water. Use light skin care products and avoid applying heavy make-up if you’re wearing a mask for long periods.

When possible, remove your mask every 2-3 hours to allow your skin to breathe, while obviously adhering to safety guidelines designed to ensure your safety during the ensuing pandemic.
