Submissions for the 7th Next Wave Awards are open from April 20th to September 20th, 2020 on www.gzdoc.cn. University students from both China and abroad are all entitled to participate.

The Next Wave Awards International Student Documentary Competition has been held for six consecutive years now. Its contents cover campus screening tours, masterclasses, training camps, academic forums and many other activities. Nearly 300 world-class universities including Oxford, UCL, Columbia University, UCLA, Tsinghua, PKU, Boston University and VGIK have participated in the competition.

Due to the pandemic, the campus screening tours, which were scheduled from March to May every year, will be held online this year. More than 100 documentaries will be screened on streaming platforms including iQIYI.com and Huya.com. You can search ‘Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China’ (中国广州国际纪录片节) on these websites, or log in to Guangzhou Library’s virtual documentary museum (http://gzd.gzlib.org.cn/bk-web/) to watch the films.

Viewers can also chat with documentary directors and producers who will take part in the competition’s live streams to share their views on a variety of topics.

Between April 21st and 29th, you will be able to watch eight family themed films on Huya.com, such as ‘Don’t Worry About Me’, ‘Blood Sisters’, and ‘Life As He Likes’. University student directors including Huang Liancong, Huang Yu and Wang Kai will share their opinions on the purpose and possibilities of family in cinema via live stream on April 30th.

The competition is jointly hosted by the organizing committee of the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (China), China Youth Daily and China Education Television, and is organized by South China University of Technology and Global Raytur.
