As more enterprises started resuming work this week, both Guangzhou and Shenzhen enforced a real-name registration system on the Metro to effectively trace passengers and control the epidemic.

Guangzhou Metro

From February 17th, passengers are required to scan a QR code in the carriage as soon as you get on the metro and fill in your carriage number, name, ID card numbers(optional), gender, and the stations where you traveling from and to. The carriage number is on both sides of the carriage.

The app is in Chinese but see picture above for English language translation.

In addition, if you change to another metro line or move into a different carriage, you will need to scan the QR code and fill in your information again. For example, if your journey requires you to take both Line 3 and Line 7, you need to register on Line 7 as well as Line 3.

According to Guangzhou Metro, the system is able to record people’s movements accurately and inform the passengers if an infected passenger has been confirmed nearby.

Shenzhen Metro

Shenzhen implemented a real-name ticketing system from February 16th.

The single-ride token ticketing system will be suspended. Those who use the prepaid Shenzhentong cards must complete registration via QR code in each compartment.

Passengers who already use the QR codes for boarding the Metro are not required to re-register their information.

At the same time, to ensure passengers are traceable, Shenzhen Metro has introduced an onboard information-sharing system by posting a QR code in each compartment, which riders are required to scan as soon as they board the train.
