Heavy rain has hit Yangjiang, Maoming, northern and eastern Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta regions today (February 13th), with light rain over the Leizhou Peninsula. The other cities and counties across the province also saw considerable amounts of rain. The temperature ranging between 15℃ and 21℃ in most cities.

Normally when the wet cold days come, we tend to close the doors and windows to keep out the damp, even though it may not be able to prevent it from sneaking in. However, during the present epidemic, when we have been told that we should open the windows more frequently for better ventilation, what should we do?

The impact of weather

According to experts, rain can purify the air by bringing down the pathogenic microbes to the ground. In the meanwhile, the indoor air quality will be poorer due to reduced ventilation.

When the temperature is low, people are more vulnerable to diseases due to the cold. Cardiovascular symptoms will also be burdened.

During wet days, microbial droplets will absorb water from the environment, which will curb the spread of viruses.

Strong winds can reduce the concentration of microbes density the air, while conversely the air quality is likely to become worse when it is calm.

Special reminder

During the coming days, the key periods to keep the house sealed against moisture are the morning and evening. The air humidity is higher during these periods than noon. Dampness will permeate into every corner of the house if you leave the doors and windows open, especially those facing south or southeast.

The best time to open windows for ventilation is noon.

Pay attention to the weather forecast. When northern winds or a drop in temperature are expected, you can open the windows for both fresh air as well as helping to remove the moisture from your house.
