Guangzhou Commerce Bureau: virus has no influence on food supply

Guangzhou Commerce Bureau said most markets in the city saw high demand for food as citizens are told to stay at home during the holiday. But there is no need for panic buying as the supply of daily necessities is sufficient and the price remains stable in the wholesale markets.

According to the bureau’s statistics, the vegetable trade volume of Jiangnan vegetable market reached about 44.9 million kilos while the trade volume of Huangsha seafood market and Guangzhou fish market reached about 350 tons.

Guangzhou does not purchase pork from Wuhan directly. The pork sold in the city mainly comes from Henan, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hainan and Yunnan as well as places in Guangdong including Xinxing, Qingyuan and Gaoming.

As for food storage, Guangzhou owns about 80-thousand-ton frozen meat (60-day consumption of the city), 64-thousand-ton frozen duck and chicken (42-day consumption of the city) and about 1.5-million-ton grain ( a-year consumption of the city).
