“Food is China’s greatest ambassador. It is a central ingredient to Chinese culture, family life, and building friendships and business relationships,” Mr. Paul Lewis, International Consultant of the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (GZDOC), said during the ‘Guangzhou Night’ event at the Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou on December 10th.

‘Guangzhou Night’ has been held for over ten years and welcomes numerous foreign guests. Now it has become one of the highlights of the documentary film festival, presenting festival attendees with a traditional, open, inclusive, innovative and beautiful Guangzhou.

This time, the event heavily featured food and culinary documentaries, and hosted around 100 guests from both China and abroad, inviting them to taste authentic Cantonese delicacies and take a night cruise on the Pearl River.

During the event, a list of ‘Excellent Culinary Documentaries’ was released, which is a list of must-see movies for both food and documentary lovers. The Best Culinary Documentary Short went to ‘Hand Line Cod’ from Canada, Best Culinary Documentary Series ‘Once Upon A Bite’ from China, and Best Culinary Documentary Feature ‘Michelin Stars: Tales from the Kitchen’ from Denmark.

In addition, Mr. Chen Xiaoqing, who is known for his culinary documentary series ‘A Bite of China’ and ‘Once Upon A Bite’, was conferred the Achievement Award.

Over the past few years, the event was held at some of the most exciting sights in Guangzhou, such as Party Pier, Canton Tower, Taigucang Wharf and Huangpu Ancient Village.
