2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to China and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Zhuhai. Zhuhai and Macao have worked hard on improving people’s quality of life, innovation and many other areas during the past years.

Every day, Macao residents can enjoy a steady stream of high-quality pork, beef, fruit and other fresh products from the Chinese mainland, thanks to the special delivery service of Tongyu Logistics (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd, a company located in the Zhuhai-Macao Cross-border Industrial Zone.

“For a long time, servicing Macao is the core business of our company, and we play an important role in the distribution of daily consumer goods and production materials in Macao throughout the year,” said Aaron Hu, general manager of Tongyu Logistics.

With the establishment of both the bridge and the port in the Industrial Zone, Zhuhai and Macao are connected through an increasing flow of products and passengers. Aaron also added that their parent company, Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited is Macao's largest supplier of energy products and main supplier of fresh and frozen food as well as logistics services. It brings great convenience for Macao residents.

In addition to warehouse and logistics services, the Zone provides office space for Macao SMEs. Currently, Zhuhai Park has moved in more than 300 Macao-funded enterprises, accounting for about a half of the park’s total, with an investment of almost 2 billion yuan.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao 3D Printing Industry Innovation Center is another case of boosting innovation cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao. Established in June 2018, it is the first incubator to support start-ups from both upstream and downstream segments of the 3D printing industry.

Millions of dollars' worth of industrial 3D printers are now available for product testing in specialises laboratories. Five other laboratories for metal, powder, and stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing as well as 3D-scanning and interior carving, which are also 3D printing components have been set up.

Now there are 24 companies and projects in the center, covering 3D printing, bio-medicine, new materials application and other fields, with 30% of them are from Hong Kong and Macao.

One Macao project called AI New Species, can extend AI technology and 3D printing in different applications. When traditional applications are integrated with AI technology, then new products are generated. For instance, a wax figure can be animated using AI, and can imitate your voice and talk to you.

The lab provides AI robot engines, product design and rapid prototyping for new AI products. And a 3D printer significantly reduces money and time cost for AI start-ups since 3D printing enables them to use cost effective printed components.

“The innovation center is really a good platform to serve innovative enterprises from Macao, and it is also evidence of enhanced cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao,” said Xie Yonghong, vice-general manager of Print-Rite Innovation Investment Co., Ltd of Zhuhai.
