Do you love good food? Would you like an in-depth and honest look into the world of both Michelin star chefs and restaurants? Do you want to know more about the “greatness and flaws of Guide Michelin in this golden age of gastronomy”?

.

If the answer was yes, then grab the chance to see ‘Michelin Stars: Tales from the Kitchen’. Critics have said the documentary “serves as a way to get you from one plate of food to the next,” and “at the end of the film, you will be salivating, starving, and exhausted.”

A salon titled ‘Feast: Food & Film’ featuring both a screening of the documentary and a tasting session was held at the Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou on the afternoon of November 24th, and was attended by food critic Yan Tao, Michelin star chef Mai Zhixiong, GZDOC Organizing Committee representative Ding Zhizhao, media representatives, as well as both food and documentary enthusiasts.

After the film screening, guests tried three dishes newly created by Chef Mai who made the dishes using typical ingredients from his hometown Jiangmen, including Duhu cauliflower, Duruan bitter melon and mud crab. The three-course tasting menu was prepared by both Yan Tao and Chef Mai and will be added to Yu Yue Heen’s Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner soon.

Chef Mai has over 30 years experience in cooking and is now the Executive Chinese Chef at the renowned modern Chinese restaurant Yu Yue Heen at the Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou. The restaurant has been a Michelin starred restaurant for two consecutive years now.

For Chef Mai, awards like a Michelin Star are important, because they are recognition for him and his team’s hard work. “But the most important thing is that we as team prepare the best Cantonese cuisine for our customers,” Chef Mai said. Over the years, Chef Mai has made it his mission to bring authentic Cantonese cuisine to more people around the world.

The salon was hosted by the Organizing Committee of the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China (GZDOC), together with the Moet Hennessy Group and Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou.
