A groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent site of International Finance Forum (IFF) was held on November 24th in Nansha District, a rapidly developing district of Guangzhou. Zhang Shuofu, Party Chief of Guangzhou, attended the ceremony.

The IFF is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental international organization dedicated to high-level financial dialogues. The forum has settled its annual meeting in Guangzhou since 2017. Its permanent site is located in the Financial Island in Nansha with the functions of conference venue, exposition, banquet, press conference and business hotel.

Wen Guohui, Mayor of Guangzhou, said Guangzhou will fully support the development of IFF and facilitate the construction of its permanent site in Nansha. “With the construction of the site, we hope to promote Guangzhou’s business environment and introduce more high-end talent to the city, and eventually to share the achievement with the world,” he said.

Han Seung-soo, IFF Co-chairman, said the Financial Island is located at the center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and will be the center of multiple financial activities. “We expect more financial institutes to settle in the region and jointly build the Greater Bay Area into a financial center worldwide.”

Jiang Yang, IFF Vice-chairman, added that the permanent site of IFF is expected to attract a series of international institutes, enterprises, capital and talent to Guangzhou, and especially Nansha.

The opening ceremony was attended by politicians, financial leaders and scholars from all over the world. Major government officials of Guangzhou including Chen Zhiying, Pan Jianguo and Cai Chaolin also participated in the event.
