The 14th China Tribology Congress kicked off in Guangzhou on November 11th. Being the country’s top and biggest tribological congress, it was attended by more than 2300 representatives from research institutes, universities and enterprises.
Themed “Tribology & Made in China”, the congress will shed light into the latest development of tribological research and application through academic presentations and a product exhibition. Top scholars including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, such as Xie Youbo and Xue Qunji, presented at the congress.
Xue Qunji said tribology is closely related to the development of advanced manufacturing as any relative motions will cause friction and abrasion. The application of tribology can be seen in many industries ranging from high-speed train, aircraft construction to micro-electric mechanism.
Xue added that the development of tribology in China, especially the sealant industry in Guangzhou, is advanced and has been recognized by global counterparts. “We have great researchers, a well-developed talent pool and a variety of national experimental platforms. In 2017, the World Tribology Congress was held in China for the first time which is a milestone of China’s tribological development and enabled us to showcase our achievement to overseas researchers.”
He Shizhong, Chief Expert of SINOMACH, said SINOMACH has launched a long-distance monitor and operation platform which integrated tribology and the technologies of Big DATA and AI. The platform has been adopted by many enterprises and adopted in major infrastructural projects such as the Three Gorges Hydropower Plant.
He said that, the technology also helps the company forging partnership in oversea markets, especially in the countries and regions along the Belt and Road. “We start cooperation with Middle East countries like Dubai and help monitor on the Lubrication security of some major equipment of the oil fields.”
This year’s congress was hosted by Chinese Tribology Institute of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, and undertaken by Guangzhou Mechanical Research Institute, SINOMACH-IT, South China University of Technology, Shenzhen University and Guangdong University of Technology.
