The 2019 Guangzhou Job Fair for Foreigners was held at the China Hotel on November 9th, providing open positions from dozens of companies and introducing guidelines on policy, laws and regulations for expats who want to start a business in China.
Most enterprises are involved in media, education or electronics industries, including China Media Group, Jinan University and OPPO and so on.
“We need foreign teachers in all subjects, like English, Maths, Science, PE and Engineering.” said Mr. Dean Philip Skelton, hiring and teaching director for GZL International Consultants.
Furthermore, in recent years, there is also a trend that employers require more from foreign job seekers. Mr. Skelton expressed that in addition to the basic requirements of diligence and punctuality, potential employees also need to speak a little bit of Chinese.
Mr. Martin Daniel Carriere, a foreign employee from the Guangzhou College of Commerce, also voiced their requirements. “We are looking for English, German and possibly French teachers who are very motivated and qualified to join us. They will need to undertake a background check and their language proficiency needs to be high.”
Hundreds of job seekers from all over the world came to the job fair and sent their CV to various enterprises. “The employers are both informative and welcoming. They are providing some good opportunities.” was Elizabeth’s evaluation, a woman from the States who has been living in Guangzhou for over 2 years now. “So now I just need to follow up and apply to for a specific position.”
The job fair was hosted by the Foreign Talent Research Center and Ministry of Science and Technology of the P.R.C, and was sponsored by Chinajob.com and HelloCareer. The job fair is also going to be held this year in both Shanghai and Nanjing on November 16th and 17th respectively.
