Guangzhou’s Lingnan Group and the Sun Trip signed an MoU on 1st November in Guangzhou to jointly hold the Sun Trip Lyon-Guangzhou solar bike competition in 2020.
The competition is expected to start in May next year and its participants will set off in Lyon and ride along the Silk Road through Alps, Taklamakan Desert and Tibetan Plateau to Guangzhou.
According to the organizer, the competition will see record-large number of Chinese participants as five Chinese riders have already confirmed participation. The competition will be supported by “made-in-China” solar bikes this year as well.
In addition, the trip will include a mini contest along the route between Lyon and Frankfurt this year in order to celebrate the Guangzhou-Frankfurt-Lyon tripartite friendship which was established in January.
The Sun Trip is a solar bike competition which has been held every two years since 2013. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sister relationship between Guangzhou and Lyon, the competition included Guangzhou into the route in 2018 and attracted 40 participants worldwide to join the adventure. Starting from Lyon, the competitors rode 12 thousand kilometers and crossed more than 10 countries along the Silk Road.
