According to Mr. Hong Sung-wook, Consul General of Korea in Guangzhou, he has felt that since his arrival to the city in 2018, many people really do have a genuine wish to further advance the relations between Korea and China.
In regards to the cooperation between Korea and Guangdong, it is progressing. For instance, in April this year, Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui made a visit to the ROK and attended the 8th China(Guangdong)-ROK Development Conference. In May, the China-ROK Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA) Economic Cooperation Forum was successfully held in Shenzhen.
Mr. Hong Sung-wook also said that the Korean Consulate will spare no efforts in rendering support for the further boosting of exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
"The cooperation between Guangdong and the ROK has always been quite close. In 2018, the import and export trade volume between the two sides hit USD 74.85 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 12.2%, accounting for nearly a quarter of bilateral trade," said by Mr. Qin Weizhong, Vice Governor of Guangdong.
At present, Guangdong is both developing the GBA and engaging in the Belt and Road Initiative, which will bring more cooperation opportunities to countries worldwide including the ROK. Guangdong is willing to deepen cooperation with the ROK in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, education and people-to-people exchange.
