Rex Chan Lok Kee has been working in the Chinese mainland for 17 years, following his graduation from the Chinese University of HK. The ever-growing China-Africa relationship that has blossomed since the Belt and Road Initiative was launched sparked Rex Chan to think of ways he could bridge Chinese and African businesses through his own efforts. In 2017, as one of the many young Hong Kongers looking to establish businesses in the Chinese mainland, Rex Chan chose GZ, the largest community for African people in China, to establish an advisory company catering to business people from China and Africa, the Africa Commercial Platform.

The Africa Commercial Platform provides business cooperation consulting services to Chinese enterprises hoping to explore the African market. Rex Chan’s Platform serves as a virtual matchmaker to pair domestic product providers with African buyers. In Rex Chan’s business world, the "trade fair plus e-commerce" pattern is becoming quite mature. And, one of the best-sellers he’s seen comes from the beauty and cosmetics industry.

Now, the fast-paced construction of the GD-HK-Macao Greater Bay Area is helping Rex Chan expand his business, thanks to broader connectivity within the area. Also, acting as the Vice Secretary of the Silk Road Development Association in HK, he is taking an active role in enabling more HK youths to learn about the development of the Chinese mainland through giving lectures and seeking internship opportunities for HK students in the GBA.

Rex Chan hopes that more young HK people might become engaged in the construction of the Bay Area, and give full play to show their biggest advantages in foreign language speaking and professional skills. Hong Kong will embrace more opportunities in the international arena under the framework of the "Belt and Road" and the Greater Bay Area. Young people in Hong Kong must explore new opportunities following this trend.
