On July 5, the ‘2019 Dianping Must-Try Food List’ was published in Guangzhou, with 29 Cantonese dishes being selected. The corresponding ‘Must-Try Restaurant List’ and ‘Must-Visit Food Street List’ were unveiled simultaneously and include 60 restaurants in Guangzhou.
The lists, which were released by China’s Yelp Meituan-Dianping, include a total number of 1,463 must-try restaurants, 655 must-try dishes and 38 must-visit food streets, covering 50 cities around the world including not only Chinese mainland cities, but also Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas cities such as Tokyo and Bangkok.

On Tongfu Road, a must-visit food street in Guangzhou, some of these delicacies can be savored. Tongfu Road is one of the most traditional arcade streets in Guangzhou. Under the arcades, there are time-honored household desserts, soups and herbal tea shops as well as hole-in-the-wall restaurants, which might look tired or shabby but offer some of the city’s finest cuisine.
Tongfu Road (同福路)
Directions: Take Exit D of the 2nd Workers’ Cultural Palace metro station, and you will be right on the 93-year-old Tongfu Road. Starting from Tongfu East Road, the first time-honored brand to see will be Fenfang Dessert.
Fenfang Dessert (芬芳甜品)
Fenfang Dessert, founded in 1982, now has many chain stores in Guangzhou.
Fried pork and corn dumplings (香煎鲜肉玉米饺)
The Fried Pork and Corn Dumpling is one of the most popular dishes in this shop. As the name implies, the dumplings are filled with pork and corn inside crisp dumpling skins.
Fried zongzi with egg wrap (鸡蛋煎粽)
Zongzi is usually steamed or cooked in water. Here on Fenfang Dessert, zongzi is fried with egg wrap. Have a bite and you will find many fillings such as chopped mushroom, pork and mashed mung beans. It’s enough to fill an empty stomach.
Water-chestnut syrup (冰花马蹄沙)
Water-chestnut syrup is a kind of sweet soup with egg drop and water-chestnut cubes. It is icy, sweet but not cloying, which makes it popular especially in summer.

Sen Ji Eatery (森记小食店)
Sen Ji Eatery boasts its famous steamed rice in clay pot (Bao Zai Fan, 煲仔饭). This dish is attractive in price and quality. Ten yuan or offers a good meal to satisfy your taste buds. With rice steamed in a clay pot and some already-cooked meat, and vegetables and sauce added on it, a pot of Bao Zai Fan is ready for eating. For better flavor, it is suggested to mix all the food in your pot before eating.

Chicken Congee, the specialty of Xiong Ji, is made up of rice and tastes thick and sticky. Priced at 16 RMB, it is the most expensive dish in this restaurant, which means that you can get your fill for less than 30 yuan.
