All 15 stations of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway are now complete, with the line set for a timely opening on September 30th. During first period of running, the intercity railway will provide skip-stop service, reducing travel time to just 40 minutes from Shenzhen airport to Guangzhou.

The Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway, from Guangzhou Xintang station to Shenzhen airport station, runs for about 76 km.

According to Liang Ji, manager of the intercity railway project, current testing has mainly been the inspection of civil work and station functions. Further testing and debugging will start July 5th, with dynamic detection processes across various systems.

This intercity line is one of the main axes on the Pearl River Delta network and the first intercity railway to directly connect Guangzhou with Shenzhen Airport. Its opening will congestion in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen.

The railway connects with many other lines: the Dongguan-Huizhou, Foshan-Dongguan and Xintang-Guangzhou North routes all link up to the new line. After the opening of Xintang-Guangzhou North intercity railway, a direct connection between Shenzhen’s Bao’an airport and Guangzhou’s Baiyun airport will finally be realized.

Furthermore, the railway connects the subways of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou: Humen North railway station is an interchange with Dongguan metro line 2, Duhaixi station with Shenzhen metro line 12 and Xintang station with Guangzhou metro line 13.

40 min from Guangzhou to Shenzhen airport

The speed of the intercity railway is designed to be 140 to 160 km per hour, and each train is able to carry 1200 passengers.

According to Liang, stations have been places about every 7 to 8 km, making the trains as useful as inter-city buses, but far quicker, only taking about 40 minutes from Guangzhou Xintang to Shenzhen airport.

Each station is equipped with escalators and barrier-free elevators and time-saving QR code technology will be used, according to CRCC.

Stations

Guangzhou section: Xintang.

Dongguan section: Zhongtang, Wangniudun, Dongguanxi, Hongmei, Dongguan Port, Houjie, Humenbei, Humendong, Chang’anxi west, Chang’an.

Shenzhen section: Shajingxi, Huhaixi, Shenzhen Airport North, Shenzhen Airport.
