Composed by one of the world’s greatest composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, ‘Don Giovanni’, is often described as ‘the perfect opera’. In 1787, Mozart wrote the opera ‘Don Giovanni’ based on Da Ponte’s libretto, changing Don Giovanni’s negative character to a bold and romantic one who defies convention. With fantastically dramatic music, Mozart creates a lively atmosphere, and brings the characters of different classes, identities and personalities to life.

As one of Mozart’s most celebrated operas, ‘Don Giovanni’ reaches a rare perfection in terms of its combination of tragedy and lightness. A story with many twists and turns, carried by an incredible energy, it also contains a strong dose of darkness and cynicism. Through his retelling of the myth of Don Giovanni, Mozart gives the eternal seducer a new power: the power of music.
The ‘Don Giovanni’ to be performed in Guangzhou in July is directed by French director Laurent Laffargue and will be performed jointly by both Chinese and French artists. It is a co-production from Guangzhou Opera House, Bordeaux National Opera and Compagnie du Soleil Bleu.
