Hengqin New Area has already installed 30 km (18.6 miles) out of 159 km (99 miles) of large-capacity optical cables for an upgraded mobile communications network between Guangdong Province and the Macao Special Administrative Region.

The optical cable has 1,152 fibers within a diameter of 23 mm and is intended to meet growing bandwidth requirements of the telecommunications industry. Such high density and integration make optical fibers easier to maintain and save the tight space for underground pipelines and costs for redundant construction.

Hengqin's mobile communication network must grow exponentially in line with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone as massive demands are made for communication device connections between Guangdong and Macao.

The 1,152-fiber cable design meets Hengqin's requirements for internet coverage over the next five to eight years. Da Heng Qin Technology Development is striving to provide overall coverage from computer room to computer room, and from computer room to fiber optic cross connection cabinet, an executive said.

Da Heng Qin held a dozen discussions in 2015 for experts to confirm technical specifications. The preliminary design, architectural plan, and review were completed in 2019.
