Fifty-five construction and engineering consulting enterprises and 253 professionals from Hong Kong and Macao have been registered in Hengqin New Area since Dec 1, 2019 when their qualifications began being recognized by the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone.

 

The recognitions came in response to the Outline Development Plan for the Greater Bay Area, which designates Hengqin as a pilot zone to authorize them. The provision to acknowledge Hong Kong and Macao construction and engineering professionals was approved at the 23rd session of the Standing Committee of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress. It is the first regional plan in Guangdong Province to permit Hong Kong and Macao enterprises and professionals to provide services on the Chinese mainland.

The forward-looking provision has gone far to advance in-depth cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, announced the municipal inspection team at a July 1 review of law enforcement. Liu Jiawen and Tian Zhongmin, vice-chairmen of the Standing Committee of the Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress, led the team on an inspection of Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy (ILA) Hengqin and heard reports on implementation of the provisions. Harrow was developed by Hong Kong-based Lai Sun Group.

To date, the total investment in projects in Hengqin under Hong Kong and Macao management has reached 2.7 billion yuan ($417 million).
