Shenzhen reports 2 imported COVID-19 cases from Hong Kong in 2 days

On Dec 1st and Dec 2nd, Shenzhen reported imported cases of COVID-19.

On Dec. 1, Shenzhen reported one imported case of COVID-19. The patient is a cross-border truck driver from Hong Kong. More information is as follows:

The case, a 60-year-old male surnamed Chen, lives in Hong Kong and travels between Shenzhen and Hong Kong on a daily basis.

Chen had  a mild cough on Nov. 29 and felt better after taking medication on his own, but did not seek medical advice. He received a routine nucleic acid test when entering Shenzhen via Wenjindu Checkpoint at 10 a.m. Nov. 30, and the preliminary screening result on the same day was positive.

The Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention completed a reassessment at 1 a.m. Dec. 1 and the result was also positive. The patient was then transferred to the backup hospital area of the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen for treatment, and was diagnosed by a panel of experts as a confirmed case of COVID-19.

The patient had previously undergone routine nucleic acid tests on Nov. 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28 at Wenjindu Checkpoint, and the results were all negative.

On December 2nd, Shenzhen reported two more imported asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 yesterday. The first case is a close contact of the confirmed case in Dec 1st. More details are as follows:

The case, surnamed Yang, is a 54-year-old male living in Block 146 of Sungang Village in Sungang Subdistrict, Luohu District.

After the preliminary screening result of Chen came out positive Monday, Yang was identified as a close contact of Chen and was quarantined in early morning of Tuesday for medical observation. His nucleic acid test result came out on the same day was negative.

He underwent another nucleic acid test yesterday and the preliminary screening result was positive. The Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention completed a reassessment yesterday evening, and the result was also positive. Yang was then transferred to Shenzhen No.3 People’s Hospital. He was diagnosed as an asymptomatic case of COVID-19 by a panel of experts and currently he is in stable condition. 

Preliminary epidemiological investigations show that Yang went home on Chen’s truck in the afternoon of Sunday and Monday. 

According to preliminary investigations, the two close contacts of Yang are both his family members living together with him. They were quarantined for medical observation Tuesday, and their nucleic acid test results by far have all been negative. The nine close contacts of the two people have all been quarantined for medical observation yesterday evening.
