As an important event organized by the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, “Messenger for Foreign Cultural Exchanges in Guangzhou” brand activities have already been successfully held three times since 2017. Each of these events had its main theme of encouraging students to think about the interconnections among family, nation and the entire world.
In an effort to promote education for international understanding and ensure students improve their moral, intellectual and fitness levels as well as in their appreciation of aesthetics, Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau decided to hold an English debate contest this year. 14 teams from high schools with international curriculum programs and international schools competed in this contest.

As GU Zhongpeng, Deputy Director-General of Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau said, in the opening speech, English debating is a useful tool to cultivate students’ rational thinking on the future development of their country and the pattern of global development. It is also an excellent opportunity to promote exchange and communication between our high schools and international schools in Guangzhou.
The 4 teams that progressed to today’s final were given a stunning debate on the topic of artificial intelligence and development strategy of Greater Bay Area. As one of the judges of the contest and Director of American International School of Guangzhou, Kevin Baker spoke highly of the contestants: “Excellent efforts, great thinking, very good argumentations, excellent team spirit and passion, it’s very impressive to see everyone’s abilities and everyone was working hard on the debate topic.”
