Tightening screws, attaching labels and assembling accessories, Ye Zongsheng, a research personnel of Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd., has been doing a production line worker's job for many days.

"During the novel coronavirus outbreak, the orders that the factory received increased sharply. We have to mobilize our managerial and research staff to join the work on the production line," said Jing Jungang, the manager of the company, one of the major global providers of medical devices based in the city of Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province.

Jing said he has been screwing on the production line for more than a week.

In mid-March, the company received orders of nearly 10,000 medical devices, including vital signs monitors and ventilators from Italy, one of the hardest-hit countries of the deadly virus.

Thousands of workers in the company are working against the clock to expedite the manufacture and delivery of those life-saving medical supplies.

"The company had over 2,000 workers last year, and the number has increased to 3,800 at this moment. Meanwhile, our monthly output is three times that of the previous period," Jing said.

Thanks to the efforts of workers, the first batch of equipment, including 5,000 vital signs monitors and over 370 ventilators have arrived in Italy by the end of March.

Nearly 1,000 ventilators printed with words "Fight against the COVID-19, together" have been packed up and waiting for loading.

"With the help of local workers in an Italian branch, we are committed to expanding our capacity of medical supplies to help treat COVID-19 patients in Italy," said Li Xiting, chairman of the company.

"We work overtime to ensure the devices can reach the country in time," Li added.

Meanwhile, the company has teamed up with other Chinese medical enterprises to set up an online international exchanging platform, sharing experience in fighting the virus with Italian medics and other foreign medics.

Medical staff from China and Europe have exchanged ideas about diagnosis criteria of infected patients and diverse measures to deal with suspected infections in several online seminars via the platform since March.
