In Guangdong, sectors and industries including medical care, protective and sanitary goods, high-tech and electronics, are some of the first to see production resume.

This company was one of China's first developers of the nucleic acid test kit. After the coronavirus outbreak, it managed to increase its production capacity in less than one month.

Other factories are also accelerating their output in order to support Wuhan. This is one of Guangdong's most renowned manufacturers of home appliances, and more than 80-percent of their 500-strong workforce, is now back at work. The company donated its first batch of microwaves and sterilizers to hospitals in Wuhan. Meanwhile, this factory is providing components for ventilation systems in the two Wuhan hospitals that were built within days.

A shortage of labor is still a problem faced by many companies, mainly due to quarantine measures across China. However, the local government is trying to help.

PANG CHAO Vice President Luxvisions Innovation Technology "We planned to recruit 700 workers in March, but it's quite difficult given the current situation. The local government is working with their counterparts in nearby provinces to find qualified migrant workers for us."

Guangdong's work resumption is seen as a barometer of China's economy. On a recent media tour, these factories opened their doors to over 50 journalists from China and abroad, including Japan, Singapore and the US. They hope it can shed some light on the efforts being made to support Wuhan and other affected areas.
