Online medical reimbursement is now available to the public, because an online service platform for medical insurance was launched recently, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Jointly established by the city’s finance department and medical insurance department, it is the first online platform to manage e-receipts for medical insurance in Guangdong Province.

Using blockchain technology, the platform enables data sharing between the finance and medical insurance departments and the city’s medical institutions. It can also prevent the counterfeiting and modification of e-receipts and allows online receipt verification, making the approval of reimbursement more effective.

Additionally, the platform monitors each procedure in the operation of the e-receipts, so that every receipt that’s used can be traced.

The platform can also perform automatic calculation of reimbursement after reading the e-receipts, so that the efficiency and accuracy of medical reimbursement is improved. As information is shared between different departments, repeated reimbursement can be prevented.

The city’s finance bureau and the social security bureau will continue to explore the application of blockchain-based e-receipts in medical care and work with government service platforms, such as “iShenzhen,” to realize “online application and instant approval” for medical reimbursement.
