The Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has launched a new service at Terminal 2 on September 6, enabling some passengers to go through luggage checking, security check and board the plane simply with their ID cards instead of a boarding pass after they check in online or at airport counters.

Only passengers buying tickets with valid ID cards and taking domestic flights of China Southern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Xiamen Air, Hebei Airlines and Chongqing Airlines can enjoy the new service and save the trouble to apply for a boarding pass or bar coded boarding pass (BCBP). Children under 12 years old are not eligible for the service.

Passengers who take flights with other valid certificates, including soldier certificates, passports or temporary identity certificates issued by a local police station, or whose ID information cannot be identified correctly due to a damaged certificate or other problems, should go through the whole procedure as usual.

The airport also began offering free, temporary electronic identity certificates on September 15. The environmentally-friendly new service facilitates passengers by freeing them from waiting in long lines to get paper certificates at counters.

Passengers can access the service on a WeChat mini program called "民航临时乘机证明" (temporary electronic flight certificates). After registering and providing necessary and accurate identity information, passengers can get an electronic temporary ID certificate - a QR code - on the phone, and then complete the procedures of check-in and security check with the QR code.

An electronic certificate has a valid term of 15 days, and can only be used temporarily for taking flights. Only passengers who buy tickets with their Chinese resident ID cards, as well as children who have acquired their own ID cards, can enjoy the service.

Eighteen machines are equipped at Terminal 1 and 2 for the inspection of new electronic certificates. The machines can be found at the following locations:

Terminal 1:

Domestic Flight Check-in Supervisor Counter;

Domestic security checkpoints 4, 5 and 16 in Area A, and security checkpoints 13, 14 and 24 in Area B.

Terminal 2:

Counters in Domestic Check-in Area C、D、E、F、G、H;

Domestic security checkpoints 18 and 20, and the First-class Passage.

Please go to the service centers to get more detailed information.
