The searing temperatures that are currently causing so much discomfort to so many people in Guangzhou show no sign of letting up and are to continue over most parts of the city this week, according to the local meteorological department.

The maximum temperature is likely to remain above 35 degrees Celsius during this week. And owing to the high relative humidity of the air, the "feels like" temperature will hover at about 40 degrees Celsius.

The weather in the city is sunny on September 10, with scattered thunder showers. The rain is expected to weaken on September 11 and is likely to stop before September 13, the day on which the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival falls.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important traditional festival in China for family gatherings, after Chinese New Year. Luckily, September 13 is anticipated to have cloudy skies turning sunny. Families will have a good chance to admire the bright moon on a clear night. And the moon will turn perfectly round on the next day of the festival.

During the weekend, weather is expected to be cloudy and sunny. And the weather next week will stay unsettled and probably rainy, with strong wind, thunder showers or longer spells of rain.
