Guangzhou’s metro transported a total of 1.57 billion passengers in the first six months of 2019, with an average daily flow of 8.688 million and a single day record of 10.62 million, according to a report issued on July 18 by metro officials.

Metro trains safely travelled 197 million kilometers with a punctuality rate of 99.97%. The reliability of the service facilities achieved 99.92%.

Statistics of the report revealed that one metro line led in carrying over two million passengers daily, and two lines exceeded one million. Line 3 (including the northern extension line) was the busiest line from January through June with passengers of 2.106 million. Line 2 and Line 5 followed with 1.391 million and 1.136 million, respectively. Line 1 approached the million mark with 987,000 passengers. Since many migrant workers in Guangzhou headed home during the Spring Festival, the numbers of metro passengers were pulled down in the first six months, but expected to be higher over the year.

Guangfo Line gained the biggest increase in daily average passenger flow, up 52% from 329,200 (the full-year figure of 2018) to 502,000, thanks to the opening of the Shixi to Lijiao section of the line at the end of 2018. Nanzhou and Lijiao stations were added to interchange with Line 2 and Line 3, making the whole route more accessible.

Compared with the data from all of 2018, the number of daily passengers carried by Line 2 and Line 3, two arteries crossing from Guangzhou north to south, climbed further from 1.346 million to 1.391 million, and 2.038 million to 2.106 million, respectively in the first half of 2019. While Line 8 reduced to 602,000 from 666,200 of last year.
