Special Yangchengtong cards recently were released, coming in 12 different designs.

Featuring 12 zodiacal constellations, these newly designed cards are mini-sized commemorative cards. They are about five centimeters in width and length, easy to fit in a pocket or on a keychain.

The price for each card is 58 yuan. Buyers must top up the cards before using them.

Many series of commemorative Yangchengtong cards have been released, for example, the Guangzhou metro train series, traditional Chinese festival series, B.DUCK series, and Disney series.

The commemorative cards offer the same discounts as the ordinary Yangchengtong card, including 40 percent off on public transit tickets after taking the bus or metro 15 times in one month. They also have the same function as the Lingnantong transit card, allowing card holders to take public transportation in all 21 prefecture-level cities within Guangdong province, as well as in Hong Kong and Macau.

Apart from paying for bus and metro rides, the Yangchengtong has other uses, such as paying parking fees, paying for arrears on library books, shopping at wet markets and convenience stores, and tracking missing individuals. (Annie Lee, Louis Berney)
