The Zhuhai-Macao Cross-Border Industrial Zone tested its new Bonded Import (Customs Supervision Code 1210) business on April 22 when a truck loaded with more than 100 e-commerce packages was manually inspected and released.

E-commerce platforms may now import overseas goods in bulk in response to market forecasts and consumer demands. The goods are then stored in a special customs-supervised area before being ordered and delivered to consumers as personal items. This enables e-commerce enterprises and customers to buy quality overseas products at a lower price with quicker logistics speed.

The packages released April 22 belong to a cross-border platform in the industrial zone – Tianying Supply Chain Co, whose business model and experience have become a reference. Tianying boasts a comprehensive mode integrating overseas direct purchase, storage and sorting, and distribution.

Release

On the one hand, shoppers can either place an order online or make an offline payment via QR code. On the other hand, Macao companies seeking to sell in the mainland market can franchise or supply products to the platform.

Zhuhai was authorized by Guangdong Province last year to build a Comprehensive Cross-Border E-Commerce Pilot Zone to pioneer business-to-business technical standards, workflow, supervision modes, and information practices.

The industrial zone, leveraging the new wave and its proximity to Hong Kong and Macao, has rolled out a series of preferential policies involving rent, enterprise settlement ,and talent cultivation to develop e-commerce.

At a cost of 10 million yuan ($1.5 million), the zone will also establish a 1210 Public Inspection Platform and bring global commodities into Zhuhai via Hong Kong and Macao.

The Cross-Border Industrial Zone is located off the Qianshan Waterway west of Gongbei Checkpoint and south of the Xiawan community.
