Hong Kong's younger generation is generally eager to explore career opportunities brought by development of the Greater Bay Area, according to a survey by job portal jobsDB.

A total 6,000 job-seekers, aged 18-65 and from 20 industries, participated the study.

It found 45 percent of younger respondents, aged 18 -23, are willing to work in southern areas that include the bay area, 40 percent in other mainland cities and 25 percent in overseas jobs.

According to the survey, 36 percent of young respondents believe a liberal management culture is important.

At the same time, respondents generally have an open attitude towards part-time jobs or becoming a freelancer. Only 27.1 percent said they consider long-term work.

Isaac Shao, manger of jobsDB Hong Kong, said young job-seekers are less concerned about family issues and don't mind frequent or long-term departure from Hong Kong.

The bay area consists of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, as well as nine cities in Guangdong Province — Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing.

Covering 56,000 square kilometres, the bay area had a combined population of about 70 million at the end of 2017 and its GDP reached around 10 trillion yuan in 2017.
