It will only take 15 working days for Hong Kong and Macao-funded hospitals and health clinics to get approval to be set up in Shenzhen, according the Shenzhen Evening News, quoting a source from the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission.

So far, eight clinics funded by Hong Kong investors, including C-MER (Shenzhen) Dennis Lam Eye Hospital and Shenzhen MediNet Dental Clinic, have been put into operation in Shenzhen.

The recently released outline for the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area requires promoting quality medical resources cooperation and supporting Hong Kong and Macao hospitals in setting up wholly funded or joint-venture clinics in Shenzhen and eight other Pearl River Delta cities, as well as the construction of a regional medical treatment center.

Shenzhen set an example by establishing the University Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital in 2012 through partnership with Hong Kong. In six years, the hospital has introduced six leading medical clinics and 255 overseas medical experts to work at the hospital.

The hospital was the first on the Chinese mainland to obtain accreditation of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and the youngest AAA hospital in Shenzhen.

In 2018, Shenzhen-Macao TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) Innovation Research Institute was set up in Shenzhen. Hong Kong Polytechnic also set up a research base in Shenzhen focusing on new pharmacy and health food research. Shenzhen TCM Hospital also teamed up with Hong Kong Science and Technology University to engage in TCM research.
