The future is going to be all about artificial intelligence, bringing revolutionary changes to both industry and people's everyday lives. South China University of Technology (SCUT) established its AI Alumni Association in Guangzhou on December 16th in recognition of this fact.
The newly-established organization will facilitate communication between SCUT alumni engaged in AI research and development around the world, and strengthen their fellowship and cooperation in accordance with the SCUT motto "Study Extensively, Reflect Carefully, Discriminate Clearly, Practice Earnestly".
Liu Qijin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee remarked at the inauguration conference that the advancement of AI-related disciplines, technological innovation, and the drive to upgrade software and hardware are resulting in the development of different economic and social sectors into an "intelligent" era.
As a platform for alumni, it will deepen industry-university-research cooperation and encourage the development of more AI talent through setting up an industry think tank and holding activities such as AI alumni forums and high-end academic conferences.

"We (SCUT) have more than half a million alumni in different industries across the globe. Thanks to the resources our alumni have access to, we can help to find ideal partners and quickly promote new AI products and services," Han Ziwei, Chairman of White Horse Group and President of the SCUT AI alumni association introduced the purpose of establishing that organization.
In short, this move will accelerate lasting development in the field of AI in China.
Later on at an AI industry forum, experts and corporate executives made a variety of speeches to discuss the latest development, technical features and applications of AI. One such speech saw Ou Hejian, Director of the high-tech R&D center at the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that AI has become a comprehensive interdisciplinary subject integrating Internet, big data, parallel computing, deep learning, and neuro science, which has entered a new stage of application such as speech recognition and unmanned vehicle technology.
