Toritama, an authentic “neighborhood Yakitori joint” from Tokyo, is now serving over 20 parts of the chicken perfectly grilled to diners in Guangzhou.

Toritama is a famous yakitoriya in Tokyo with a history of 20 years. Its boss has been in the business for over 20 years and owns three restaurants in Japan and several outlets in Singapore, China’s Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand.

Established in 1999, Toritama has been listed on Michelin Bib Gourmand for four consecutive years between 2015 and 2018. Its Hong Kong branch has become a very popular restaurant for the locals after five years operation.

This April, Toritama opened its second branch in China, the first in Chinese mainland, in No. 75 Tianhe East Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou. Toritama chooses Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, because people in Guangdong love eating chicken most in China and the province is home to all kinds of chicken.

The head chef Matsuzawa has worked for Tokyo Toritama and its branch for over five years, and been in the catering business for over 15 years. Three months before the opening, Matsuzawa has come to Guangzhou to pick ingredients, learn language, train workers and get used to life in the city along with his wife.
